Kalen Nash

Talk about easy listening.

Kalen Nash is the lead singer of the band Ponderosa, a indie rock band I would compare to more of a MUSE type sound. Ponderosa's Site

BUT! This post is not about them.... Kalen Nash has a solo record out called Ukred. It is fabulous! A super chill easy listening album, very vocally and acoustically based. Kalen Nash

My favorite song on the album is called "Ramona" I would have to say it is what I would consider the ballad of the album with a very soft romantic melody and lyrics that would melt even the hardest heart.

Check out the music and let me know what you think!

Jeremy Squires

What to say about someone as talented as this man....

This talented singer songwriter, husband and father of two is from New Burn, NC his music although has a slight twang, is not a country sound. Jeremy's music is more of an Americana sound, slightly folk. You can hear the feeling behind the lyrics when he sings, like every word is from the heart. The lyrics are darker, more melancholy in feeling, each word sung with conviction though.

Jeremy has released two albums. The first record "A Place to Hide" was released in January of 2012 and his second "In The Dark" was released in May of 2012... Two full length albums in one year is impressive. Both albums were recorded and mixed by Squires himself. Jeremy appears to be working on a new album, no word when it will be released, keep your eye out for it though, at the rate this man is going, it may be out this year. That would be a record for an unsigned artist right?! =]

I encourage you to check him out and let me know what you think!

Matt Malone

Like good lyrics and an awesome acoustic driven style of music?

The name that comes to mind is Matt Malone for me. Incredible singer/songwriter musician. Lots of talent in this man, he only has one released CD and I am praying he comes out with another one soon. His CD "withdrawn" was released in late 2011 and I cannot stop listening to it. I actually discovered him on Jango a few months ago, I was immediately drawn in by his voice. Matt has a southern background which you can tell in his lyrics, but his voice reminds me of that of  John Rzeznik of the Goo Goo Dolls just different its hard to describe. All his lyrics tell a story, and you an hear what he has been through in his songs, many about life experiences, and of course heartbreak and women.

Just throwing it out there, he is also very easy on the eyes is you like the backwoods West Virginian type =]

I really think Matt will be going placed, I am surprised he hasn't honestly become much bigger than he is. Especially among the country and acoustic music fans.

Check out his website! Let me know what you think of his music

JNS Rocks Deland

I know its a late, but here are a few pictures that I took at Delandapalooza of my favorite local band Jimbo and the No Shows.

They played two sets in downtown Deland, one at Redzone Sports bar and the other set outside of City Hall.

There was a great turn out of all ages and the crowd was really into the music, I encourage you to check them out on facebook and reverbnation.

Jimbo and the No Shows!

Local music: Something I love and support. So I figured why not do a blog post about a local band that it awesome and that I am very close to. My best friend James or Jimbo (depending on where you know him from) is the lead singer and founder of the band Jimbo and the No Shows (JNS)

The band has somewhat of a unique sound, that I can only describe as Indie, Southern rock... sounds weird I know. But just give them a listen!

www.facebook.com/pages/Jimbo-and-the-No-Shows
http://www.wix.com/james0340/jns

The refreshing thing about this band is that they write their own music, Jimbo does most of the writing. The lyrics are very passionate and heartfelt. The bands stage presence is excellent and you can't help but enjoy watching them play and getting into the music right along with them. The favorite thing of the band is to play their original music as opposed to cover songs, which the cover songs most people play have been way over done anyways. You can definitely tell by the quality of the music that they are all very talented musicians. James alone has an incredibly long list of accomplishments, several years ago he started a band with Jason Michael Carroll, who is now a popular country artist. Just give JNS a listen and you will see why this band is so popular around here.

JNS is very active as far as playing shows, multiple shows a month, and tomorrow I am actually going with the band to a big music festival in Deland called DELANDAPALOOZA MUSIC FESTIVAL, if you are in the area you should come and check it out! It will be a great time. I will be doing some photography for the band so pictures to come on that.

I challenge you all to not only listen to the quality of music but also listen to the lyrics.

Enjoy!

Nose Piercing =]

So if you know me at all you know I enjoy things of an edgier (more edgy?) nature so to speak, for example, tattoos, motorcycles, cigars, and piercings.

Two weeks ago I got my nose pierced and I am crazy about this piercing! Its super cute and believe it or not it hurt less then getting my ears pierced.

Ignore my bad makeup That was at the end of a long day that started at 6am. This was the same day I got it pierced so it was swollen still.

Over time the ring or stud in my case will start to make a natural indention in your skin so that it won't stick out so much.

I got my nose pierced at Tat2Times (same place I get my tattoos) the piercer there is Namen and he is excellent, very clean and professional and has great prices. One thing I will say that I find slightly annoying about this piercing, is that the initial stud they put it is very long so it will twist down and you can see the tip of the ring from the bottom of your nose... if that makes any sense. So here is me saying if you want your nose pierced but are scared of the pain or how it will look just do it, it doesn't hurt and if you get it and don't like it take it out.

At any rate I love it!

The Civil Wars

This duo... I cannot listen to a single song without getting chills.... There is a passion in their music that cannot be described unless you listen to their music.

Now I was under the impression that they were a couple, but if you listen to the lyrics of their songs you get a different idea. They are not a couple as I have come to find out, which is fine, but mind blowing to me that two people who are not together can perform with such passion and such crazy tight harmonies.

Their song Poison and Wine was used in an episode of Greys Anatomy and thats when they became more well known. I being behind the times and being one of the few, it seems like, that doesn't watch that show I was a little late to hear their music, I actually first heard it on Jango (a better version of Pandora) the first song that I heard by them was Barton Hollows, which was such a fiery song compared to the other songs they write. I was very drawn to their talent, its more vocally driven than musically driven which is something imo that is rare nowadays, most music now is very digitally enhanced, but you could hear that their music was not at all.

After reading up on them a little bit and watching some of their stuff on YouTube I was surprised to find out that their CD "Live at Eddie's Attic" was only the second time that they had ever preformed together, by the way that CD is free on their website. www.thecivilwars.com

The way they blend and flow is insane to me, its like the same voice is split into a female and a male... odd I know but seriously go listen to them. If you have any appreciation for real talent they will blow your mind.

As far as genre goes, they are considered to be folk/country. Some of their songs do have a twangy sound, and the folk I think really comes from the fact that they only use a piano and a guitar, which they both play. I think it is probably pretty convenient for them, just the two of them, to tour, and by tour I mean get in a car and drive from place to place (OK obviously its a little more then that) but you get my drift.

Bottom line is you need to check out this duo, even if you do not like them, you should still be able to appreciate their music.
